Joe Doe Lucky Buck VINTAGE Electric Guitar (Honeyburst Gloss Finish)

Joe Doe Guitars and Vintage have collaborated to create a series of eight custom limited edition electric guitars that are hands down, like nothing you've ever seen before!

Constructed using the highly regarded Vintage V6, V52 and V72 chassis, Ben Court, the originator of Joe Doe Guitars has applied his signature blend of art, design and tall storytelling to create guitars with a history, character and soul all of their own. This limited edition electric guitar is the Lucky Buck - a telecaster inspired model owned by fictional country musician Leslie Coal.

    The 'Lucky Buck' Overview

The Lucky Buck features a semihollow Alder, double bound body in a black gloss finish. The neck is a Hard Rock Maple affair with a Vintage Slim-C profile and Lignum Rosa fretboard sporting the incredible signature inlay, executed unbelievably well at the given price point. You get all wilkinson hardware in the form of the WTB 3-saddle bridge, and WJ-55 EZ Lock machine heads, matched to 22 superbly finished medium vintage frets and a Graphtech nut.

This ensures great intonation and tuning stability whilst the custom designed high output bridge single-coil and darker neck p90 provide wonderful, open sounding tones from the 3-way-switch. Tones are definitely of the airy, country type but you can get a mean rock and heavier tones from the bridge pickup giving the guitar far more versatility than the looks would suggest.

The Leslie ‘Lucky Buck’ Coal Backstory

Leslie's backstory is a great riches to rags to riches again affair that absolutely imbues the guitar with life and this sense of intrigue, giving the guitar reason to exist rather than just being another electric guitar with a similar spec sheet to a hundred other guitars on the market. The 'Lucky Buck' is adorned with Lucky's signature inlay across the fretboard, a Cactus F-hole and floral scratch plate- all perfect additions to flesh out the feeling of this character and his story.

Leslie ‘Lucky Buck’ Coal topped the Billboard Country Music charts in 1952 with his heartbreak inspired single, “Whiskey for Breakfast”. Flushed with sudden success, Coal signed numerous endorsement deals, the most lucrative of which was a contract to become a regular fixture on the WHB national radio show Giddy Up Y’all!. Coal’s initial role on the morning show was to sing cover songs of the day, but due to ‘lifestyle difficulties’, he was relegated to singing jingles for local businesses. After a few unhappy years, Coal ended his contract with WHB and decided to return to his country music roots. “I’m done singing about washing powders and car dealerships. From now on I’m all about the music, not the money.”

For decades, Coal toured and played to small audiences in the southern states, his low earnings barely covering his gas and living expenses. However his luck changed in 2005 when “Whiskey for Breakfast” was sampled in East Coast rapper Kalamitee’s track “Get Drunk”, leading to substantial royalty payments and a renewed appreciation of Coal’s original country music.

    VINTAGE Electric Guitar Specifications:

Body: Semi-hollow, double bound American Alder body with unique “Saguaro” cactus F-hole to let the country sound ring out. Coal is best known for playing the sunburst version of his electric guitar live, though a black version was made for his guest appearance on the ‘Saddle Up and Ride!’ TV Christmas Special in 1978.

Bridge: The Wilkinson WTB 3 saddle design provides a tried and tested way to deliver perfect intonation and tone transfer. As reliable as a Texas sunset.

Pickups: Custom designed Joe Doe neck P90 style pickup and a hotter-than-a-branding-iron bridge pickup.

Guitar Controls: Single Volume and Tone controls with three way pickup selector switch.

Machine heads: You like pedal steel bends? Great, then do your thing and let the Wilkinson WJ55 E-Z Lok machine heads bring you back to tune.

Neck: One piece hard rock Maple neck, shaped into a classic Vintage ‘soft C’ profile. Firm and reassuring in the hand, like a well worn saddle pommel. Lignum Rosa fingerboard.

    Frets: 22 Medium profile frets.

Nut: 43mm Graphtech nut, smooth and friction free, like a tumbleweed blowing across the Chihuahuan Desert.

Headstock: Unique Vintage Joe Doe “Lucky Buck” headstock design.

Case: Joe Doe luxury hardshell case with case candy.

    Certificate: Certificate of authenticity included.
